What's new?

Did some heavy moving around in the booth recently.  After selling the cute shabby wash stand, we moved some of our furniture around.  Front of the booth still has the beachy feel.  Rustic beachy, that is.

Also spruced up the back of the booth by adding some more stars and stripes. We love the Red, White, and Blue. Makes me want to light some sparklers right now!

The Key

How do you get by with this vintage look that so many of us love?  What does it take to pull off a unique, one-of-a-kind feel to a room?  Do you ever worry, "Does this just look crazy?"  or "Will anyone 'get' this?"  What is the key to decorating well?

I have an old painters' ladder leaning against a wall in my living room.  My brother-in-law likes to tease me and ask "What are you doing with that ladder?" Anytime we have a party or family gathering, he talks someone into coming up to me and asking , "Hey, Elizabeth, I was wondering, what are you doing with that ladder?  Are you painting that wall or something?"  Ha ha!  We all get a good laugh out of it, but if I didn't know better, I would think he doesn't "get it" when it comes to my decorating style!
From FunkyJunkInteriors.blogspot.com
I recently found this quote in Country Living Magazine from Sarah Gray Miller, Editor-in-chief...

"Confidence is Key.  Value shouldn't be determined by the sticker a shop owner puts on a given object, but by how much you like it.  Trust your taste, and you'll be free to fall for what you really love..."

Good advice, right?  The key to pulling off your unique one-of-a-kind style is to have confidence in what you are doing.  If you LOVE it, that means it is YOU.  And if it looks crazy, that is okay.  That means it will be a conversation starter!  And who doesn't love to be part of a great conversation?

Monday at the Mall

Last weekend, Mom and I had so much fun helping Antique Company Mall Owner, Diane, do some "fluffin'" in her booths.  We have decided that is our favorite part of this whole booth thing.  Diane needed to do some shuffling around due to selling some furniture and adding some new purchases.  She let us loose and let us do whatever we thought looked good.  After a few hours of fun this is what we put together....

We called this this "sitting room" with these pretty pink velvet furniture... the "elegant room."
This was the "lodge bedroom" - in the front window.... kind of rustic and "outdoorsy".

This is a beautiful coffee set in a whimsical sea shell and corral theme... Cute!
Thanks for letting us go for it, Diane.  We loved it.  It was fun getting to pull together some "looks" that we wouldn't normally have in Booth 58.  We felt like we were little girls "playing store!"

Red Shoes

These little ones have reappeared in the Booth several times... two years ago I picked them up on a junkin' trip. Then I found another set of them last month at a flea market... and again found them this weekend.
The fun thing is that everytime I put them in the mall, they sell within days. I affectionately call them "Red Shoes Little Boy" and "Red Shoes Little Girl". They take me back to childhood... because of the cute red "Keds" that they sport... Mom always had us in Keds... and red has always been her favorite.  I still have it engrained in my mind that every girl needs one pair of cute red shoes in her wardrobe.

Anyone know the story on these prints?  They seem to be popular... I'd love to know their story

What's New?

Here are a few new things in Booth 58 this week:

We've added a load of treasures from the sea..... like these glass floats and some new nautical postcards.

This find is one of my faves that Mom and Dad happened upon recently... perfect for a patio or corner in a garden.  We perched it up high in the front of the booth.
Big Brother has claimed this vintage record holder as "his" if no one purchases it soon. He has already decided that it will be the perfect art drying rack for his room. It looks like we are training up little "repurposing thinkers!" Way to think out of the box, Sweetie!

We've added some partiotic "tuck"- like this shipping tag banner that Mom made. Simple, cute, and just enough...
So, that's what's new in Booth 58 today.

Monday at the Mall

Missed our Monday at the Mall last week.... we were taking a break, hanging out with the fam.
Back to it today as we visit our Booth 58 "Neighbor" at Antique Company Mall.... Barbara Smith.  We got to hang out with her this weekend as we both "fluffed" our booths.  She is a fun neighbor to have!

Barbara's front window beach cottage look is gorgeous right now.  Mom and I decided that we could curl up with a book and just spend the day in her booth... it is so peaceful, relaxing, and bright.  Just beautiful.

Love the hammock that she hung over her booth.  She has wanted a hammock for a while.... she found this vintage one on a recent buying trip on her way home from Indiana.  Dad joked all day about going to stretch out for a nap in it!

The ACM is quite "beachy" right now... Come up and see for yourself.  Happy Monday.

Where the Magic Happens

We've been at the farm with Mr. and Mrs. 58 celebrating their birthdays this week.  It's always great getting to go there and just relax in the country.  Lots of playing with cousins, swimming, picking veggies from the garden, and we even did some junkin' while we were there.

We know how to party.... balloon in one hand and lollypop in other....

Mrs. 58's pink flamingo pinata... She even took the first swing!
Dad gave me a tour of his "Booth 58 Workshop" to show me some of the fun he has been working on. Big Brother helped paint some of our newest additions this week.  Can't wait for you to see some of this in the booth real soon... like tomorrow!  They are heading this way with the red truck packed to the brim...AND we have a shopping trip planned for Friday morning too.

Granddaddy pulling the red wagon filled with grandkids to visit the workshop... where the "magic happens!"  Pretty impressive operation - right?

Make plans to come up to Antique Company Mall to see what we have found.  Early bird gets the worm!

Just Read

I'm taking the kids to the library to work on summer reading list.  It's always fun to snuggle up with a book.... not the laptop or Nook or iPad... Just a good ol' book with a cover and pages.

Our family favorite right now is "Pete the Cat"
Don't you love old books?  A bookcase full of them is wonderful too.  And beautiful books with colorful spines?  I even love books turned around so that you can't see the spines!

Mom and I stack them and sit them in Booth 58 backwards a lot... Makes folks stop and ask "Did they mean to do that?"  Yep.... we like to make you stop and look twice!  We know it bugs some people.... 'cause they really just want to see what books we have to sell. But those yellowed page edges are just too pretty!

Happy Summer Reading!

This is a "cubby" piece that Mr. 58 made... perfect for books, shoes, toys, dishes, or other collections.

Constants - Part IV

Constants.... Part IV - Last But Not Least... "What are constant sellers in Booth 58?"

"Tuck" is the little extra stuff that we add to vignettes in the booth - to make it different - to add charm - to make it stand out - to give something that extra "umph" it might need.   Sometimes we use old black and white family photos, postcards, sheet music, or book pages. Most of the time our "tuck" ends up being merchandise too.

We constantly "tuck" in vintage hard bound books and vintage reproduction flashcards, postcards, gift tags, greeting cards, and bingo cards.  All of these extra little goodies tend to be big sellers.

Sometimes we laugh at our sales report when we see that we sold mostly $1.50 postcards or flashcards on a certain day.... We think the folks working the cash register must get tired of our silly little items.  Sorry, yall!

Sand Bucket List

Well, the first day of summer is only half way over... and this mama is one tired lady already!  We've pulled out the slippin' slide,  gone to the park, said "I'm bored" two times, ate Chick-fil-A, gone bowling, watched Dumbo, had two scrapped knees, made it through one big sibling quarrel, and now we are in our first quiet/rest time in our rooms.... we'll see how long that lasts.  (maybe long enough for me to get this post published at least!)  I learned last summer that structure is much better than 'free play' for my little ones.  But I also learned that more structure means more work for Mama.

Saw this cute book at Barnes and Nobles ... Fun ideas.  Also have seen lots of moms with crafty/creative ideas how to make their own "Sand Bucket List" on Pinterest.... listing out the things they want to do with their kids this summer.  I've made a mental "Sand Bucket List" - but I dare not write it all down... Big Brother might read it and nag gently remind me of my fun list every waking moment.

Do you have a Sand Bucket List this summer?  Make sure you put visiting Antique Company Mall in Downtown McKinney on it!
